After the shock of there being a paradise at all, and the further shock of me ending up there, I think seeing Adolf would be a bit of an anti-climax actually.

According to my friends mother Hitler could very well be in this so called Paradise if he had truly asked God for forgiveness...oh no it doesnt matter how many people he killed he can still live an eternity in hapiness...so can every single other murderer and rapist...but yet of course..the homosexuals arent allowed to live in this paradise. What a load of garbage.

There are several problems with the biblical paradise. Here are a few:

Matthew 23:43 says, "And Jesus said unto him, Verily i say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."   In this verse Jesus tells one of the thieves that were getting crucified next to him that he will be in paradise with him that day. Yet Jesus went to hell for three days according to other scripture.
Christians say that paradise in the "waiting place for heaven", but this can't be right since no one is supposed to know where they are going until judgment day. Like if someone was going to heaven, Christians say they go to paradise first, because they can't go to heaven until God decides on judgement day if they are worthy. But it that is true they couldn't go to paradise either, since paradise already tells them they are going to heaven. Therefore judgement day is useless.
The whole afterlife concept is based older religions like Hinduism. So why is Christianity do insistent on their heaven being real? I don't know for sure, but it must have something to do with their utter delusion.

Hang on...

aren't you talking about "Purgatory" there? Isn't the "waiting place" called "Purgatory"?

Correct me if if I'm wrong, but I always thought that "Paradise" was Heaven, and the place we all go to to await judgement was called "Purgatory".

Not that I believe any of this shit; just playing along... you know?

Well... I'm not convinced. But I can't be arsed to argue with you on an arcane point of Christian nomenclature.

Cider Vicar... you should know about this stuff. Who's right?

And which one am I going to end up in?

Purgatory doesnt exist in my mind. The catholic church made it up somewhere down the line

Listen... in my mind, Purgatory doesn't exist. But then again, neither does Heaven, Hell, Jesus, God, Satan, angels, devils, leprechauns, Santa Claus, the tooth fairy or Richard Dawkins.

No, hang on... I made a mistake there.

Oh, sorry, of course... leprechauns DO exist!

Hi guys
sorry been away for a while in paradise - well the Eden project, so nearly paradise.
as I understand it there is no waiting places as such.

Purgatory is a Roman Catholic notion. In Purgatory those destined for heaven spend time being purified ready for heaven.
Paradise is usually another name for Heaven, this comes from paradise being the original state into which humankind was created and to which humankind and indeed all creation will be restored at the end of time. Other terms include heaven, new Jerusalem etc, Although these are different bits of the restored creation they are often used to refer to the whole of it.
There is another concept that is getting confused with others here namely limbo. The problem arises because the Bible suggests a final judgement after a resurrection of all people. But where do dead people go in the meantime? Some suggest a limbo during which peple are not aware of the passing of time. Others suggest that the 'redeemed' find themselves immediately in God's presence, the unredeemed immediately not in God's presence; both then have to wait until judgement day.
Personally I lean toward the view that heaven and hell don't exist as afterlife experiences. I prefer the notion that heaven and hell are extremes of where humanity may end up in the here and now. Heaven is a state earth could end up if justice was free flowing and there was utopian equality; likewise hell is where we could end up if selfishness was rampant etc etc

No, that's not what I understood "Limbo" to be.

Limbo was (note past tense) a place where children who had died before they were baptised into the Christian faith were sent. This was the Catholic Church's rather bizarre attempt at dealing with the problem of those who were not Christian through no fault of their own being condemned to Hell. I mean, if you choose not to be a Christian, then that's your look-out. Satan is boiling your pot in readiness as you read this. But if you had no choice in the matter, because God in his omnipotence decided to kill you before one of his Earthly ministers could get to you and half-drown you in some holy water, then it seems a little unjust... no?

It's rather unfair of God to condemn to eternal suffering babies who died during or shortly after childbirth. So they went not to Heaven (that would contradict the Bible, and as we all know, the Bible is the infallible word of God) and nor to Hell ('cause that's just cruel, and as we all know, God is loving and merciful and not a bit bad tempered or violent), but rather to a place called "Limbo". What happened to them there I'm afraid I don't know - my knowledge of the self-tangling strands of Catholic stricture gives up in exhaustion and despair at that point.

But anyway, it's all rather academic now. The Catholic Church has changed its mind!

Limbo no longer exists. A few months ago, the Pope decided it was a silly notion and so just abolished it. What happened to the souls of the babies who were in Limbo is anyone's guess.

I wish the Catholic Church would change its mind on a few other things...

Yep...I read that article sometime ago too....the catholic heads have all got together and changed one of the articles of faith or whatever they call em'..

Heaven or Hell on earth...? safe option Cider - saves ya from taking too much of your 'faith' to stretch to that fairytale /horrortale.

but. also remembering to compare ALL the various dogma's....of ALL the various denominations etc. and you won't be able to get your head around  the concept  for awhile...

ie...... NO god's WAITING ROOM for .the Seven Day Adventists.....believe that death is 'lights out' and its all about resurrection, followed by a short burst in the flames and happy ever after for all the white folks who get  raised from the death.......literally ..like zombies..

YUK!

--------------------------------------------------------------
In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

Yeah, Snakey's right, Lie Detector.

I can't see there being much room for ambiguity in what the Bible tells us about Heaven and Hell. If you're good and accept Jesus as being the one who can save you, you'll be "saved" and won't end up in Hell. If you're not, and don't, you won't, and will. (That last sentence makes perfect sense in my own mind!)

Why God and/or Jesus need to perform these seemingly desperate, 11th-hour interventions like "saving" us is beyond me. God created everything, so he created Hell, no? Why does he need to "save" us from his own creation? If God is perfect, how could anything he creates be less than perfect? If God creates perfection, and God created everything, then Hell is perfect, no?

I hope it is... 'cause I think that's where I'm going!
